Reminder about the nature of these courses
by Admin User - Monday, 11 January 2010, 06:23 PM

This is an online course - you will need to work on your computer, regularly using a web browser to read course material, and answer questions by typing in answers or completing other online tasks. You will not need any special software, only good internet access and your own personal email address.

There will be exercises to complete using an audio CD.

There is no paper version of the course, everything is done via a web browser, an audio CD, plus email and telephone contact with the tutors.

What equipment do you need in addition to your computer:
  • Access to the internet - either at home or a local library or similar.
  • Loud Speakers or Headphones for your computer as there are some audio clips to listen to. Although you can download these to an MP3 player if preferred.
  • A CD player or MP3 player (like an iPod) in a place where you can relax.
Can I get help?
  • The team can help with most of the problems you may encounter setting up your computer to use this course. Simply email of phone for advice.
  • Very few problems are likely to occur and if you regularly use the internet and email you should not encounter anything you cannot solve with the minimum of help.

Coping with Noise

This is a Distance Learning course using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to help for those people suffering from persistent noise disturbance.
The course is delivered both as an on-line course and
by post, for those without computer access. It is part of an ongoing research project funded by DEFRA ( the UK government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).
The project started in July 2008 with a successful pilot course and will continue at regular intervals thoughout the year. Starting in September 2009, the course will rerun every few months until at least July 2010.
